Sun-Mar Excel NE (Non-Electric) Composting Toilet
The Excel NE is a three-chamber composting toilet designed for those with no continuous 110V power supply. First launched in 1981, it has become the standard off-grid toilet.
Unlike the electric Excel, the Excel NE has no fan or heater. Odorless operation is achieved through a 4" vent mounted at the top rear of the unit, which functions like a chimney on a wood stove. For optimal airflow, the vent should be installed vertically and extend 2–3 feet above the peak of the roof.
An optional 12V fan can be added if the vent includes bends or if the toilet is installed in areas with downdrafts, heavy residential use, or seasonal use. The fan consumes 1.4 W and can be powered by a solar panel and 12V marine battery.
